The DiMAGE X20 is the world’s smallest and lightest 2 megapixel camera with a 3X optical zoom*, and it’s built for a life on-the-go. High-Quality images with 2.0 megapixels
The DiMAGE X20 starts with the essential elements for beautiful images. The camera is built around a high-precision electro-optical system designed to maximize image quality. The system uses a 2.1 megapixel, 1/3.2-type interline primary-color CCD with 2.0 million effective pixels for fine images. This pixel resolution can produce A4 size 150-dpi prints or postcard size photo-quality prints.
World’s Fastest Startup
Because great picture-taking opportunities can happen at any moment, the DiMAGE X20 has a very quick startup time – the world’s fastest* among digital cameras with optical zoom lenses. Just turn the camera on, and in a second it is ready to take pictures. There are no complicated settings to make or numerous buttons to press. The camera is ready when you are.
Non-Extending 12X Zoom (3X Optical, 4X Digital) Lens
The DiMAGE X20 uses Minolta’s exclusive non-extending zoom lens. This revolutionary design uses internal folded optics and does not change the slim profile of the camera even while shooting. This unique 3X optical zoom is equivalent to a 37 – 111mm lens on a 35mm camera and ideal for everything from group shots to candids and close-up portraits.
The 3X optical zoom can be assisted by a 4X digital zoom, providing a seamless zoom range of 12X. The resulting maximum 12X zoom capacity equals a 444mm super-telephoto lens on a 35mm camera.
Precise Autofocusing
The high-performance five-point autofocus system makes taking beautiful, sharp images simple. Just place the subject anywhere within the extra-wide focus frames and the camera will do the rest. The camera uses visual and audio signals to confirm focus.
Close-Up Photography
Close-up pictures of all kinds of interesting subjects can be made with the DiMAGE X20. The lens focuses as close as 3.9 inches at all focal lengths without the need of a separate macro function. An area as small as 1.6 X 1.2 inches can be captured.
256-Segment Metering
The DiMAGE X20’s advanced multi-segment metering system uses information about subject location from the AF system along with 256 metering segments to calculate the optimum exposure based on subject and background brightness. There is no need to worry that the subject will be lost in deep shadows or washed out in front of dark backgrounds. Additionally, the built-in flash is activated automatically in backlit or low-light conditions.
Extended Shutter Speed Range
The DiMAGE X20’s extended shutter speed range gives the camera greater control over exposure in difficult lighting conditions. The camera can control the exposure from 4 seconds for scenes at night to 1/1000th of a second for brilliant sunlit landscapes.
Multi-Frame Advance
Minolta’s new multi-frame drive mode allows you to capture nine action-stopping frames of a single event in one picture. The nine images are laid out in a 3 X 3 grid in a single frame.
Creative Image-Capture Modes
Easy to use modes help you capture the perfect picture. The portrait mode controls exposure, flash, and image processing to emphasize the subject’s complexion. And for something a little different, images can be captured in one of five monochrome modes; the traditional grays of black and white, the warmth and ageless quality of sepia, or red, green, and blue tones to add fun or feeling.
Self-Portrait Mode & Preview Mirror
Have you ever wanted to snap a quick shot of yourself and a friend, but no one was around to take the picture? The DiMAGE X20’s self-portrait mode and mirror make it simple. While holding the X20 at arms length, grab your friend around the shoulders and use the specially curved preview mirror on the front of the camera to compose the picture. Press the shutter button and you’re done.
E-Mail Copy Function
Sending e-mail images was never this simple. The DiMAGE X20’s e-mail copy function makes a 640 X 480 or 160 X 120 JPEG copy of an image on the memory card so that it can be easily transferred over the Internet.
Easy Controls and Settings
If you want to stop playing around and get “serious” about photography, the DiMAGE X20 will give you the options. The main 3 X 3 graphic menu gives easy and quick access to camera controls. Camera settings are changed with a simple five-way controller on the back of the camera.
Image Pasting
Image Pasting allows one image to be placed in another image for creative special effects. After choosing the background image, simply select the frame shape and size and position it over that background image. The live image is displayed in the selected frame. Compose the subject in the frame and press the shutter button to embed the image.
XR Movie Recording
The DiMAGE X20 does more than take photographs. XR (Extended Recording) movie processing allows digital video with audio to be captured and played back. The length of the XR movie is only limited by the memory card capacity and image size. Two image sizes can be selected: 160 X 120 pixels and 320 X 240 pixels.
Quick Image Access & Playback
Half the fun of digital photography is being able to see what you have taken immediately. With the press of a single button, the DiMAGE X20 lets you access the recorded images and delete unwanted images. VGA (640 X 480) jpeg files of your favorite images can be collected in one folder so they can be shared by either using the camera as an electronic album or by sending them via e-mail. Images can be played back like a slide show complete with dissolves, wipes, and fades either in the camera or on a TV.
Face-to-Face Web Communication
Ever wish you could have a face-to-face conversation with those good friends who have moved away? The DiMAGE X20 makes this possible as a remote camera for web communication. Simply use the supplied USB cable to connect the camera to a computer with a Microsoft Windows operating system and a compatible application such as Microsoft Net Meeting.
Dark Noise Reduction
Dark noise, an ever-present problem in electronic systems, manifests itself by giving a grainy or sandy appearance to images taken with long exposures. The DiMAGE X20 combats this with a noise-reduction function, which automatically activates for exposures of one second or longer.
USB Direct-PrintThis very convenient function allows images to be printed directly from the camera to a compatible printer using the supplied USB cable.
Uses SD Memory Cards or MultiMediaCards
The DiMAGE X20 uses the popular SD Memory Cards or MultiMediaCards as recording media. These tiny cards are about the size of a commemorative stamp, and are widely available.

The DiMAGE X20 is powered by easy to find AA batteries -- both alkaline and rechargeable Ni-MH. No matter where you are in the world, you will never have to worry about finding extra batteries.
Bundled with DiMAGE Viewer
DiMAGE Viewer supports the latest generation of Minolta digital cameras. The Viewer complements the camera by allowing still and movie images to be processed and edited on a computer. A wide range of image-processing controls is available, plus a new movie enhancer plug-in for editing and processing digital video. The DiMAGE Viewer is not limited to images captured with Minolta cameras, and can edit and process numerous common image-file formats.
